Gates Scholars

Of the many exceptional master's and doctoral students accepted to the School of Public Health, the Gates Institute identified those students from developing countries who planned to pursue careers in population and reproductive health and who had the potential to become leaders in these fields in their home countries. More than 50 master's, doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships were awarded between 1999 and 2006.

Gates Scholarships have been granted to exceptional mid-career professionals in the population field— physicians, social scientists or administrators with health, policy, managerial, or research expertise— committed to returning to their countries after their advanced training. Gates Scholars have participated in an educational program designed to help them develop the conceptual, analytical, and operational skills needed in positions of leadership.

NOtice: Awards of scholarships for graduate degree programs is currently suspended.
