This proposed research aims to address an important substantive question about the frequency with which industrial livestock operation workers and their household member contacts carry animal versus human adaptive multidrug-resistant S. aureus (MDRSA) and whether there is a temporal relation of specific molecular characteristics – e.g., cell adhesion, immune evasion, and virulence genes – with reports of symptoms of infection versus subclinical colonization.
