Summary

The objectives for the CARDIA program and Echocardiography Reading Center include: 1) Identify factors related to progression of subclinical CVD; 2) Identify predictors of change in left ventricular mass and function; 3) Further understand the basis for racial/ethnic differences in CVD; and 4) Provide a platform for in-depth ancillary studies of CVD and other areas. The Echocardiography Reading center will support in-depth ancillary studies that will be operationally integrated into the main study.
