My primary research interest is in contextualizing clinical decision support (CDS) into population health informatics (PHI) to be utilized at different HIT levels of managed care such as electronic health records (EHRs) or consumer health informatics (CHI) solutions. In line with this contextualization, I have modified and regenerated electronic quality measures (eQM) based on PHI-derived CDS to represent a population aspect of the health quality measurements.
Currently as the assistant director of the Center for Population Health IT (CPHIT) at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, I am pursuing priority PHI research interests that provide direct population-based CDS to providers, patients, and payers. Aligned with CPHIT activities, I have automated the PHI-CDS process by applying CDS rules against large health information exchange (HIE) datasets that contain a diverse set of population data. In the near future, CPHIT is planning to apply National Quality Forum’s (NQF) e-measures across Maryland’s HIE dataset to generate a comparative picture of quality measure across all providers that are connected to the HIE.
