Research and Professional Experience

Dr. Abraham worked as a biomedical engineer for several years before pursuing a career in epidemiology and public health.  She recieved her Masters degree in Biostatistics in 2005 and her Doctoral degree in  Epidemiology in 2008 from Johns hopkins University.  Dr. Abraham has been on the faculty of the Department of Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins since 2008 and works with the Statistics in Epidemiology group to develop novel methodologic approaches with primary applications in HIV research and chronic kidney disease.

Dr. Abraham works primarily with the data coordinating centers for four large prospective cohort studies housed in the Statistics in Epidemiology group.  Her work with the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) Study involves validation and development as well as investigating novel hypotheses related to the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).  Some of this work has been translated to the context of HIV, where CKD and other comorbidities are of primary interest in the modern therapy era as HIV-infected individuals are living fuller lives.  Dr. Abraham has worked with the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) to elucidate the contribution of HIV-infection to kidney function impairment and the interaction of HIV and CKD in increasing the risk of other sequelae such as anemia.

Dr. Abraham also has an interest in HIV-related cancers such as cervical cancer and HIV drug resistance.  Data from the North American AIDS Cohorts Collaboration on Research and Design(NA-ACCORD) is being used to look at questions pertaining to these health problems.
