I am interested in understanding and changing food systems, particularly promoting environmental sustainability. I am also interested in food system inequities and in strengthening the public health role in addressing these issues. I am starting a new program at the Center for a Livable Future (CLF) focused on food system sustainability, with particular initial focus on food waste. Other interests include: examining farm policy in public health context, Baltimore's food system, and analyzing public communications regarding food system environmental threats, especially climate change.
I am editing a textbook on the Food System and Public Health on behalf of the CLF (forthcoming, 2014). I also manage research programs for the CLF including the CLF-Lerner Fellowships and directed research.
I teach the course, Baltimore Food Systems: A Case Study in Urban Food Environments.
