Overview

Dr. Bishai's major research interest is the mortality transitions of the 19th and 20th century and the role that public health practice plays in the prevention of death both historically and currently.

Dr. Bishai uses economics to study public health interventions, especially immunization and injury control. His current projects focus on the connection between the operations at state and local health departments and improved population health.  He teaches Introduction to Health Economics, Poverty Economic Development and Health, and new workshops on Essential Public Health Functions for district health officers and Systems Thinking.
