ScD, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, 1991
MLA, Johns Hopkins University, 1972

My primary research interest centers on older individuals, their need for and use of health and related services, and the associated outcomes. I am also interested in the informal caregivers for older persons, the transitions into and out of caregiving, and the association of depression, general health, health behaviors, and sense of self-mastery with caregiving. Another interest is the association of a diagnosis of dementia among nursing home residents with their medical service use. Recently I and others published a review of the use of electronic health records and the barriers to dissemination.

I continue to work with colleagues, led by Dr. Bruce Leff, on dissemination in the U. S. of a Hospital at Home model for acute care for certain persons with pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, or cellulitis. A description can be found on our web site.
