Program Description
The Johns Hopkins Education and Research Center and the National Healthy Homes Training Center are pleased to offer its two-day Essentials of Healthy Homes Practitioners Course to those interested in helping make homes in their community healthier.

If you go into homes to help residents or evaluate the housing for potential problems, you will benefit from the Essentials of Healthy Homes Practitioner Course.  This training will help you understand the connection between health and housing and how to identify the root causes that result in environmental hazards that threaten the health of residents.

Everyone from a public health nurse visiting a client to a home inspector advising a buyer will gain a more holistic view of a home from this training.  The course brings together a wide variety of people who share perspectives and experiences in a series of exercises that keep the training lively and engaging in this two-day course.

The training complements hazard-specific training in lead-based paint, radon, mold, pests, and asbestos by identifying root causes of health problems in a home and linking them to housing problems related to ventilation, moisture, contaminants, and structural design.  Course participants will understand how enhanced healthy homes maintenance, repair, and renovation activities will help preserve the integrity of our nation’s limited housing stock.

Without this training, you may find yourself solving one problem only to be accused of creating another problem.  You also may be losing an opportunity to more effectively serve your clients whether you are in the public or the private sector.
