The PhD degree is research-oriented. Although it does not require the completion of a master’s degree, it entails completion of all requirements for the master of health science (MHS) degree along the way. We encourage all students and fellows to participate in at least one of the four major research programs offered by the Department: Epidemiology, Prevention, and Treatment of Drug and Alcohol Disorders: Psychiatric Epidemiology; Children’s Mental Health Services Research; and Prevention Research Training. The first three of these programs offer NIH funding for PhD training.
