Hosted by the International Injury Research Unit, Department of International Health, & The Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research & Policy, Department of Health Policy & Management Child injuries are a global public health problem. According to the WHO’s Global Burden of Disease data, approximately 875,000 children under the age of 18 years died as a result of injury or violence in 2002. For every child who dies, several thousand more are severely disabled by injuries. In response, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund are leading the launch of the World report on child injury prevention. This report raises awareness about the magnitude, risk factors and impact of child injuries globally, drawing attention to the preventability of the problem and presenting what is known about the effectiveness of intervention strategies. It is hoped that this report will result in greater global awareness and catalyze political will for action at international, national and local levels to reduce the likelihood and severity of injuries for children everywhere. This seminar celebrates the global launch of the World Report presenting an overview of the Report, and discussing the impact of this Report at the regional and national level. Professionals, researchers, teachers, students and practitioners are welcome to join this global discussion. Registration Form |
