Applications to the DrPH program are considered by a faculty admissions committee which reviews a range of criteria and considers the overall balance of each applicant's qualifications. Applicants should hold a master's degree in a field related to health care management and their previous coursework should include most of the MPH core competencies. Individuals who are seeking admission without formal coursework in the core areas will need to meet the requirements while enrolled in the DrPH program.
The personal statement is a central element to the application, as it is an opportunity to explain your commitment to the field of public health, as well as your program or research interests. Applicants should also include a curriculum vitae (c.v.) or resume.
Scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) less than five years old are required for all applicants regardless of academic or professional background. The ETS institution code for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is 5352.
Applicants from countries where English is not the primary, official language must submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. A minimum TOEFL score of 250 on the computer-based test OR 600 on the paper-based test OR 100 on the Internet-based test is required for admission. The minimum requirement for IELTS is a score of 7. Official (or attested) academic records showing courses taken, grades (or marks) received, and the award of a degree, if applicable, are a requirement for admission to a degree program or postdoctoral fellowship at the Bloomberg School. Photocopies and your personal copies are not considered official. Please do not submit your own personal documents, as they will not be returned to you. Recognizing that academic records and degree certificates from institutions outside the U.S. are sometimes difficult to obtain, we urge you to begin the process well in advance of our application deadline.
Applicants who will be submitting documentation from post-secondary institutions outside the U.S. will be required to have their documents evaluated by an external credentialing agency.
Please be sure to only use a credentialing agency that will include a copy of the transcript or mark sheet in their credentialing report. If the copy of the transcript or marks sheet is not included in the evaluation sent to us, it will not be considered sufficient for review. Applicants may use any of the U.S. services, but they need to make sure a copy of their transcripts will be included. Please be sure to order a course by course evaluation. Applicants should make these requirements known at the onset of their evaluation request. Please list the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health as a recipient for your credentialing evaluations. Please be advised that sending an additional personal copy of your transcript or marks sheets directly to us to supplement the evaluation may not be sufficient for review. We need to see the documents used by the agency to complete your credentials evaluation. If the credentialing report does include a copy of the transcript or marks sheet, and Admissions Services considers this evaluation sufficient, we will use this documentation for the review of your application and to satisfy official JHSPH transcript contingencies. While we do not endorse one particular evaluation agency, we have confirmed that the following three agencies will meet our evaluation requirements and submit copies of transcripts/mark sheets with the evaluation.
