Course Credit
Health, Behavior and Society courses may be taken for academic credit or on a non-credit basis. Students who take a non-credit course will not be required to complete assignments, and completion of the course will not appear on a School transcript. Retroactive conversion from academic credit to non-credit is not permitted.
Registration, Tuition and Fees
The application deadline is May 12, 2008. Students are encouraged to register early, so that they can receive course materials in advance and have adequate time to prepare. However, walk-in registrations will be accepted if space is available. Full tuition payment is due before or on the date of registration. Checks should be made payable to Johns Hopkins University, and must be in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank. Any bank charges incurred for processing will be charged to the registrant. MasterCard, American Express and Visa payments are accepted.
Where academic credit leading to a degree is desired, students are required to pay the standard School tuition of $770* per credit for Bloomberg School of Public Health degree students. This rate does not apply to students taking courses for non-credit. The non-credit tuition rate is $375 for the equivalent of one academic credit.
Registrants financed by agencies such as the World Health Organization or the U.S. federal government must submit purchase orders or contract documents with their application. Employees of the Johns Hopkins University who wish to use tuition remission should visit http://training.jhu.edu/html/EducationalAssistance/TuitionRemission.asp for the appropriate application forms. The Johns Hopkins tuition remission does not cover the cost of books/materials.
*Estimated tuition rate. The tuition rate is subject to change at the discretion of the School.
Cancellation Policy
The Institute reserved the right to cancel a course due to low enrollment, in which case, the full tuition will be refunded. The Institute abides by the refund policy of the Bloomberg School of Public Health http://www.jhsph.edu/studentaccts/pmt_and_refund_pol.html Housing A variety of options are available for students who require housing near the East Baltimore campus. Information on off-campus housing is available through the Johns Hopkins University Off-Campus Housing Office at 410-516-7961 or www.jhu.edu/hds/offcampus.
Important Information for International Students Participants who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents require a U.S. visa to enter the U.S. In general, the Office of International Services (OIS) advises participants to apply for the B1/B2 visa for entry to the U.S. as a tourist. Participants will be provided with a letter of invitation to use to procure a visa stamp at a U.S. consulate abroad, or to apply for admission to the U.S. if the participant is eligible for the visa waiver program. This option is NOT available to individuals who will be funded by a U.S. institution or organization. When U.S. funding is involved, the J1 Short Term Scholar visa is most appropriate. If you will be funded by an institution or organization in the U.S., please contact the Summer Institute Coordinator for the J1 Visa Application Form. Note: Internet MPH students who are participating in the Institutes must apply for F-1 student visas. Exceptions are made only on a case-by-case basis. It can take several months to secure the appropriate visa stamp to enter the United States, so please plan accordingly. Specifically, individuals who will require F1 or J1 visas must submit all required documentation to the Bloomberg School 90 days in advance. Equal Opportunity Statement
