Department of International Health

Research & Centers

The Department of Epidemiology has a diverse range of research areas, with nine research centers, several major cohort studies, and numerous faculty-initiated projects. Population studies are central to the Department. Many observational studies and trials are in progress, serving as the “laboratory” for faculty and students.

Areas of research emphasis within the Department are:

  • Epidemiologic Methodology
  • Prevention of Infectious Diseases
  • HIV infection, AIDS, and their impact on homosexual men, women at high risk of infection, and injection drug users, in the U.S. and abroad
  • Molecular Epidemiology of Cancer
  • Social Epidemiology
  • Risk factors for cardiovascular and renal disease
  • Genetic determinants of disease
  • Environmental Induced Illness
