What is the application deadline?

Applications to the master’s program are requested by June 1, but will be considered throughout the year. Admissions decisions are made as applications are received.

How long does it take to complete the program?

The full-time program requires 18 months (six academic terms and one summer session) to complete.
Part-time/online students can complete the MHS degree within two to four years of matriculation.

What are the requirements for graduation?

In addition to coursework, this program includes a three-month internship, which can be employment-based. The internship is designed to provide a professional experience tailored to the needs and interests of each student. Students must submit a final paper that serves as a review of the entire educational experience. Results from the internship project and an overall review of the educational experience are also presented in a seminar for an audience of faculty and students.

What prospects are available to graduates?

Students in the Professional MHS Program receive a strong foundation that allows them to move directly into public health-related jobs or to enter a variety of graduate programs. Graduates are employed in every job sector, including academia, government, industry and nonprofit organizations. Possible careers include: industrial hygienist, environmental risk assessor, occupational health specialist, environmental/occupational health manager, environmental policy specialist, safety manager, and emergency preparedness coordinator.
