The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has state-of-the-art facilities for biochemical and molecular biological research located in newly constructed or renovated laboratories. In addition to customary laboratory equipment, the Department has an electron microscope, phosphorimager, and a DNA/RNA synthesis facility. Recently a new structural biology suite was established in collaboration with the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology and the Malaria Research Institute. This facility houses advanced equipment for determining the structures and properties of biological macromolecules. These devices include: - X-ray generator and detector for crystallography
- Biacore surface plasmon resonance instrument for real-time analysis of macromolecular interactions
- Isothermal titration calorimeter and dynamic light scattering instruments
- Circular dichroism spectrometer
- Rapid-quench and stopped-flow instruments for measuring the kinetics of rapid biological reactions
