Postdoctoral Training Program in Cancer ResearchThe ProgramThe Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has established a postdoctoral training program in cancer research. This program provides training in basic biochemical, biophysical and molecular biological approaches that can be applied to critical problems in cancer biology. In addition to carrying out a traditional laboratory-based research project, trainees will receive training and participate in activities that provide an introduction to current topics in the clinical aspects of the cancer problem and their relationships to public health. This is a two-year training program intended for individuals in the first two years of their post-graduate careers. Qualified applicants will select a laboratory in which to carry out their research project from among the preceptors of the training program. The applicant and preceptor will develop a project appropriate for the training program. The training program will include instruction in the following areas:
In addition to their laboratory research and didactic training, trainees will also participate in the following activities: Cancer Biology Seminar Series - Six seminars covering topics in cancer research will be presented by invited researchers throughout the academic year as part of the weekly Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Seminar Series. Current Topics in Cancer Biology Journal Club - This journal club meets biweekly throughout the academic year to discuss basic research papers relevant to topics in cancer research. Oncology Grand Rounds - Trainees will have the opportunity to attend four Oncology Grand Rounds each year in the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. These consist of case presentations followed by discussion of relevant research or clinical issues. Cancer Center Fellow Research Day - This one-day meeting, which is sponsored by the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, provides an opportunity for trainees to present a poster about their research project. Cancer Research Mini-Symposium - Pre- and postdoctoral trainees will present their research results at this one-day mini-symposium sponsored by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. How to ApplyApplicants must have an PhD or MD degree and should have a strong academic record and significant research experience in the biological, chemical, or physical sciences. All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Applicants should provide a statement of their research experience and interests and indicate the laboratory in which they wish to carry out their research project.
