Our mandate is to further basic science knowledge that is relevant to public health and to the core mission of our home, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH). In keeping with the inspiring motto of JHSPH, we seek knowledge at the cellular and molecular level that can "save lives, millions at a time." The focus of our research activities, past and present, includes cellular stress responses, DNA replication and repair pathways (genome integrity), protein homeostasis, cancer, aging and reproductive biology. Owing to our recent successes with faculty recruitment, we have now expanded our expertise and activities in structural biology, malaria, molecular nutrition, stem cells and chronic diseases. For the upcoming faculty recruitment effort, we are specifially interested in expertise and research programs that focus on reproductive biology and early development and which otherwise address present-day challenges in public health and have clear potential for complementing existing strengths in the Department. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is home to the Division of Reproductive Biology which has enjoyed a long and rich history as one of the national epicenters for reproductive biology research and training. Drs. Barry Zirkin, Bill Wright, Terry Brown, Janice Evans, and Daniela Drummond-Barbosa are nucleating this broad network from within the Department. In addition, a number of outstanding faculty from within Johns Hopkins University and other institutions, who share an interest in stimulating, cutting-edge reproductive and developmental biology research, interact extensively with those in the Division. Research and training efforts in the Division and Department are substantiated by two training grants from the National Institutes of Health, including one from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
Applicants should email a cover letter, curriculum vitae and summaries (maximum 3-pages each) of past research accomplishments and future research plans as a single file attachment to BMBfacultysearch@jhsph.edu. Arrangements should be made to have three letters of reference emailed separately to BMBfacultysearch@jhsph.edu. Address letters to Dr. Daniela Drummond-Barbosa and Dr. Barry Zirkin, co-Chairs, Faculty Search, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. All inquiries should be made using the email account. Please note that to achieve efficiency of review and fairness to all applicants, we will not review incomplete applications.
