FENGYI WAN

Rank: Assistant Professor
Joined BMB: December 1, 2010
Upbringing: Wuhan, China

Previous Position: Research Fellow with Dr. Michael J. Lenardo, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health

Research interest: We are generally interested in signal transduction and gene regulation in the context of the immune response and cancer biology.

Currently, our research specifically focuses on the mechanism that determines the regulatory specificity of NF-kB, a prominent transcription factor. Using biochemical, molecular, immunological, genetic, and cellular approaches in combination, we are identifying and characterizing proteins that bind to NF-kB and modulate its activity in a pathway- and gene-specific fashion in colonic pathogen infection, inflammation, and carcinogenesis.

The prospect of joining the BMB Department and the Bloomberg School of Public Health was very attractive because of my interest in elucidating signal transduction in multiple fields. The diversity of research programs, the collegial and collaborative environment in BMB, and the broader context of the Bloomberg School and University create a great scientific environment for interdisciplinary research.”
