Student Funding and Career Opportunities

We offer training grants based in the Department which support tuition and stipend for selected pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students based on academic merit and commitment to the training areas.

We also offer departmental scholarships on a merit basis for entering students. In addition, most continuing doctoral and master's degree students receive partial tuition scholarships starting in the second year of their programs.

We are pleased to announce the new School-wide Sommer Scholars Program for entrants in the 2005 academic year.

Students may find funding and training opportunities at the links below and we encourage all students and prospective applicants to visit the Student Funding Resources Office for various internal and external sources of suppport.

Links to Search Sites for Funding Opportunities

The IRIS Database, maintained by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, contains records on more than 7,900 federal and non-federal funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.

GrantsNet, maintained by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, is a database of funding opportunities for training in the Biological and Medical Sciences.

The Community of Science database contains funding opportunities for scientific research.

The Foundation Center's
Grantmaker Information Directory comprises three broad categories: links, both direct and annotated, to websites of nearly 900 grantmaking foundations; highlights and excerpts from the Center's research on foundation giving; and a range of informational materials produced by individual foundations and hosted by the Center as part of its "Foundation Folder" program.

SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse has a website that lists links to non-governmental organizations. Many, though not all, have funding opportunities for students.
