Both master's programs in epidemiology consist of coursework and thesis.  The master of health science essay may consist of secondary data analysis or a comprehensive literature review and is designed for people new to the field and for those who want to gain the quantitative skills necessary to conduct research.

The master of science thesis is considered a project requiring original data and scientific discovery.  Many students pursuing this degree find themselves conducting a "mini doctoral dissertation" in terms of breadth and scope of their research.

The basic curriculum includes the three Epidemiologic Methods courses 340.751 - 340.753, one of the four course sequences in Biostatistics, Research Ethics and Perspectives, and overview / survey courses as well as electives deemed appropriate toward providing an academic framework and base for guided research.

We also support the school-wide master of public health degree program for public health professionals interested in developing quantitative and analytical skills in epidemiology.

Master's students meet as a group four times per year for lunches and discussion.
Graduating students present a poster session each May open to the public.
