The Department enjoys working relationships with other departments within the University, as well as with a number of other institutions concerned with health and infectious and epidemic disease. Joint programs are also possible with other departments within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities Epidemiology The Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADDE) serves to foster communication, coordination, and collaboration among a multi-disciplinary team of researchers around the epidemiology of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Developmental Disabilities (DD). CADDE also strives to bring epidemiologic data and research to public health and educational practitioners, as well as to interested ASD and DD public constituencies. Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study (ARIC) is a prospective epidemiologic study being conducted in four U.S. communities. ARIC is designed to investigate the etiology and natural history of atherosclerosis, the etiology of clinical atherosclerotic diseases, and variation in cardiovascular risk factors, medical care, and disease by race, sex, place, and time. Center for Clinical Trials An interschool center devoted to promoting the use of clinical trials as a method of evaluation of preventive and therapeutic approaches to health problems; facilitates research and teaching efforts related to the practice of clinical trials.
Center on Aging and Health The Center on Aging and Health is dedicated to research that will prevent disease and disability and improve the health and well-being of older adults.
George W. Comstock Center for Public Health Research and Prevention Provides opportunities for epidemiologic field studies of the uniquely documented population of Washington County, Maryland. Institute for Global Tobacco Control Addresses issues on tobacco use and promotes research, education, and policy development to prevent death and disease from tobacco use around the world. The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) is a medical research study involving more than 6,000 men and women from six communities in the United States. MESA is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health. Outpatient General Clinical Research Center Provides clinical researches with access to clinical facilities, a research-design consultation service, research support staff, a computing center, and direct financial assistance. Risk Sciences and Public Policy Institute The Risk Sciences and Public Policy Institute is an interdepartmental program offering research and training opportunities designed to ensure that health policies for managing disease risks from environmental and occupational exposures result in improved public health. Research by Institute faculty focuses on strengthening the application of science-based risk analysis and encouraging innovative public health solutions to complex risk problems. The Institute's flagship educational programs provide professionals and decision-makers with the tools necessary to integrate health research, environmental science, and policy. Statepi Coordinating Center of the Department of Epidemiology Statepi's primary mission is to provide leadership in complex study design, research coordination, data management, and analytical methods for cohort studies, including clinical trials.
