MHA Application Requirements
Applications to the MHA program are considered by a faculty admissions committee which reviews a range of criteria and considers the overall balance of each applicant's qualifications.
A strong undergraduate record is expected and the personal statement, a central element to the application, is an opportunity for the applicant to explain their commitment to the field. Applicants should also include a resume.
Scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) less than five years old are required for all applicants regardless of academic or professional background.
- GRE scores may be submitted using the SOPHAS code 3738
- GMAT scores may be submitted using the school code KGB-3R-06
English Language Proficiency Tests
Applicants from countries where English is not the official language must submit scores of an English Language proficiency test.
To fulfill this requirement, the Bloomberg School will accept scores from either
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (ETS institution code for SOPHAS applicants is 5688)
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
HPM English Language Waiver Policy
Depending on the test, minimum scores needed for admission are as follows:
- TOEFL paper-based version: 600
- TOEFL iBT version: 100
- IELTS: 7
Please note: if you're required to take an English language proficiency test, make sure you do so well before the January 15 application deadline. These test scores, as with all application requirements are due by the application deadline.
International Academic Records
Regardless of citizenship, language or home country, if you attended a post-secondary institution outside of the United States, you must have your academic records evaluated by the World Education Services, Inc (WES). SOPHAS strongly encourages applicants to first create the SOPHAS application. Once you have your 10 digit SOPHAS ID, you are able to use the WES-SOPHAS application form.
WES also offers a 10% discount for students having records evaluated for the SOPHAS application.
You may contact WES at:
Bowling Green Station
PO Box 5087
New York, NY 10274 USA
Records from English-Speaking Canada
If you received a degree from a college or university in English-speaking Canada, please have your institution submit transcripts directly to SOPHAS.
The Bloomberg School requires official academic records, transcripts, or mark sheets from all colleges, universities, graduate, or professional schools attended. Even if grades and credits from one institution appear on your home institution’s transcript, we require the transcript from the school where the credits originated.
It is important that you do not send transcripts to SOPHAS until you list the institution sending the transcript in the “Colleges Attended” section. You will need to have your SOPHAS ID# included on the transcript.
Transcripts from U.S. Institutions and English Speaking Canada
Using the Official Transcript Request Form found within the SOPHAS application, applicants should request all institution(s) attended to send your domestic transcripts directly to SOPHAS.
It is important to note the following details when requesting transcripts:
- Transcripts must be addressed to SOPHAS
- Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution’s registrar to SOPHAS.
- The Transcript must be official. Photocopies, student copies, or unofficial copies will not be accepted.
- The student’s SOPHAS ID must appear on the transcript if not accompanied by the form
- The name on the transcript must match the name on the application.
If you are currently in a degree program, you are required to submit an official “in progress” transcript. If you are admitted, you will need to send an official transcript confirming the completion of the degree prior to enrolling in classes.
Some institutions offer electronic transcripts through Credential Solutions. If your school does participate you can order a transcript be sent via this link: http://www.transcriptsplus.net/order.
Paper transcripts should be mailed to:
SOPHAS Transcript Processing Center
P.O. Box 9111
Watertown, MA 02471
Study Abroad Transcripts
SOPHAS will not accept any foreign or French Canadian transcripts. How you completed your Study Abroad will determine how you report the academic history. As SOPHAS updates its policy frequently, please refer to their instructions found here.
International Academic Records
If you are an international student or a U.S. student who is/has studied outside the U.S. or English Speaking Canada, except for studying abroad, your international academic records must undergo a credentials evaluation. More information may be found on our International Applicant page.
All admitted international students who plan to attend the Bloomberg School are required to attend in F-1 or J-1 status (unless you are already in possession of an immigration status in which studying is permissible). This process will not begin until you are formally admitted.
The Office of International Services will contact admitted international students who have completed their enrollment form in the spring. Additional instructions will be provided then.
