Message from the Chair

Marsha Wills KarpThank you for your interest in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. As you are probably aware, this School is the nation’s leading training and research institution for public health professionals. You might not know that the Department of Environmental Health is one of the original departments in the School.

Over the years, we have built a strong reputation in translational and interdisciplinary research. Our innovative approach to learning and discovery make our programs an excellent gateway into the field of public health.

Our mission is to improve public health by developing key challenges in local, national and global environmental health. We accomplish this through interdisciplinary research from the molecular to population level, education, training and translation to policy and practice.

Paramount to our mission is a commitment to the education and training of public health professionals—our academic programs prepare public health researchers and practitioners for the constantly evolving and emerging public health challenges.

I encourage you to explore this website to discover more about our educational and training programs, web-based distance learning programs, and practice opportunities found in our centers such as the Center for a Livable Future (CLF), Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT), Center for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP) and the ERC.

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences has a long and proud tradition of excellence in research, professional practice and training. We welcome you to use this website, or contact us, to find out more about how you can be a part of it.
