Apply to the BMB PhD Program
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology only accepts qualified students of the highest caliber with interest in the areas of biochemistry and biology.
To qualify for admission to the BMB PhD program, individuals should have at least a bachelor's degree and a strong undergraduate academic record in the chemical, physical or biological sciences.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are also required. Further, we particularly seek students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to laboratory research.
Potential students should submit the Bloomberg School's online application expected to include the following documents:
- Official transcripts
- Official GRE scores
- Statement of Purpose
- Three letters of recommendation
Letters of recommendation, preferably from supervisors of work performed in a laboratory setting, are an important factor in the evaluation of candidates.
The priority deadline for the PhD program is December 15. The final deadline is January 15.
Candidates for admission to the PhD program will be invited to the department for interviews. Travel expenses will be paid by the department.
All PhD students receive full financial support, which covers tuition, fees, medical insurance and a stipend for living expenses. Graduate students are not required to serve as teaching assistants, although opportunities to teach are available if a student so desires.
