The Scientific Methods Workshop was a great hit!

On June 3rd more than 150 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows attended a one-day workshop on scientific methods held at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The event was a resounding success! See the program.

The workshop, a free event, was given by Dr. Tung-Tien (Henry) Sun, the Rudolf Bauer Professor of Dermatology, and a professor of cell biology, pharmacology, and urology, at New York University. Dr. Sun is world-renowned for his seminal contributions to keratin intermediate filament research, stem cell biology, and urothelial biology. Further, Dr. Sun has perfected a day-long seminar program over the last dozen years, in which he instructs students and postdocs in the art of bench research and scientific discovery through a series of lectures covering experimental design, how to read and write scientific papers, and how to present their research findings, while striving for high productivity and maintaining the strictest integrity. Dr. Sun kindly agreed to visit our school and give the workshop to trainees affiliated with the lab science departments.

The event was organized and coordinated by Hana Odeh, a Ph.D. student from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with a great deal of help from Shannon Gaston, the academic coordinator in the same department. Two additional Ph.D. students, Cissy Li and Smita Das, served as key contact with trainees affiliated with the Department of Environmental Health Sciences and Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. A heartfelt thank you to Hana, Shannon, Cissy, Smita, and many others who have helped in big and small ways.

We are most grateful to Dr. Sun for his transformative instruction and captivating presentations throughout this day. More information about the workshop can be accessed HERE.
