The Center for Teaching and Learning with Technology (CTLT)
is dedicated to the education of research scientists and public health professionals around the world. We combine technology and instructional design to help faculty teach and students learn in both online communities and classroom settings. The Center's services and offerings are instrumental to the Bloomberg School of Public Health's commitment to faculty development and excellence in educational materials. CTLT is comprised of instructional designers, Web application developers, technical editors, medical illustrators, multimedia specialists, audio producers, and quality-control staff.

CTLT services and offerings are as follows:

Online Courses. Since 1996, the Center has provided full Web courses towards an Internet-based master of public health degree. A variety of media is used to deliver lectures, interactive lab exercises, and other course content to students around the globe. Online students interact with classmates and faculty through online chat rooms, audio discussions, wikis, email, bulletin boards, and LiveTalk sessions.

Public Health Training. CTLT develops on-demand public health training modules for the Center for Public Health Preparedness and the Mid-Atlantic Public Health Training Center. Local public health professionals turn to these programs for well designed and convenient training from experts in the field. In addition to these trainings, the CTLT also offers non-preparedness training for public health professionals.

OpenCourseWare. CTLT currently participates in the OpenCourseWare (OCW) project initiated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The CTLT team works with faculty to publish public health content to the Hopkins OCW site. These course contents are freely available to educators, public health practitioners, prospective and current students, and the public. OCW disseminates information and knowledge about public health to the world. This project underscores some of the Bloomberg School of Public Health's main goals: keeping millions around the world safe from illness and injury by pioneering new research, deploying its knowledge and expertise in the field, and educating tomorrow's scientists and practitioners in the global defense of human life.

Instructional Design Support. CTLT has a full team of instructional designers working with face-to-face and online faculty in designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating courses. The team is poised to answer questions, explore strategies, and support departments in performing multiple instructional design tasks. See the full listing of CTLT instructional design team services.

Resources and Support. CTLT offers a variety of online resources as well as on-site teaching workshops (small-group or one-on-one). The Center also communicates about its activities and related teaching and learning events at the School via the Center's blog.
