Description:

Students consider the principles of research strategy and requirements of funding agencies, choosing a research area of interest together with a suitable mentor. With mutual review and criticism, each student develops a research plan in the format of an NIH RO1 application, which forms the basis for clinical research activity in the subsequent two years.

Learning Objective(s):

• Develop the process of considering, researching, writing, and reviewing a standard RO1 NIH grant application. • Practice for the upcoming need to submit for review and approval a research proposal, which will constitute the basis for the student’s thesis work. • Construct a successful application for outside funding for the developed research plan or a later modification.


Methods of Assessment: Student evaluation is based on written material and a research plan.
