Addresses comparative effectiveness research, the assessment of the effectiveness of competing treatment strategies available in clinical practice. Introduces students to the measurement, selection and interpretation of outcomes for comparative effectiveness research. Explores types of outcomes important in clinical trials, the relationship between patient-important outcomes and other outcomes, and the analysis and interpretation of patient-important outcome data.
After completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Describe which outcomes are particularly suitable for comparative effectiveness research. 2. Analyze and interpret the perspective of different stakeholders (patients, health care providers, policymakers). 3. Communicate outcome data from comparative effectiveness research.
