Students learn the nature of racial and ethnic disparities in health status, and become familiar with the research literature on race disparities. Students responsible to do all readings, contribute an annotated bibliography of research on a minority health topic selected by the students (with consent of the instructor) and produce a literature review on that topic.

Learning Objective(s):
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
Identify demographic and epidemiological patterns in health status by race, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status
Identify racial/ethnic disparities in access and quality of health care
Identify theories explaining racial/ethnic disparities in health status and healthcare access and quality
Identify conceptual models and frameworks for reducing and/or eliminating health status and healthcare disparities

Methods of Assessment: Student evaluation based on class participation, one class presentation, one annotated bibliography and an 8-12 page literature review.
