Examines the health, psychosocial, and economic consequences of obesity and its associated co-morbidities. Provides an overview of obesity prevalence, trends and disparities. Explores physiologic, psychological, economic, and cultural causes of obesity and the obesity epidemic, in both high- and low-income countries. Presents current treatment and prevention approaches to obesity. Explores promising future public health approaches to obesity.

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
Explain global trends in obesity and disparities in risk
Explain the consequences of obesity at the individual and societal levels
Critique competing arguments about the causes of obesity and the obesity epidemic
Evaluate current practices of obesity prevention and treatment in various settings, such as schools, childcare settings, workplaces, and communities
Propose new approaches for preventing or treating obesity in a specific setting

Methods of Assessment: Assessment will consist of 2 exams (60%) and one final project (40%).
