Description
Introduces students to the ethics of human subject research specific to working with American Indian communities. Also introduces ethical theory and principles, followed by a brief history of research ethics in Indian Country. Topics covered in lectures and moderated discussions include the importance of health research in Indian Country, informed consent for research participation, role and function of institutional and ethic review
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. reason through ethical issues that arise in the conduct of human subjects research in American Indian communities
  2. to work through ethical challenges posed in real life
Special Comments

Students taking the course for credit must possess a bachelor’s degree and must take the course for a letter grade. Students auditing the course are required to have previous bachelor’s level or graduate level health-related course work. They must also work in a health or human service field for an American Indian Tribe.
