Introduces the role of health communication in public health programs. Features health communication theory; the role of social marketing and mass media; management of communication programs; interpersonal communication; social networks and social change; and formative research and evaluation.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Know at least a half-dozen researchers/faculty at Johns Hopkins who conduct research in Health Communication
- Be able to identify three or four different ways that contemporary Health Communication research is done
- Learn about current domestic and international programs that utilize different Health Communication theories and approaches to influence and improve health behaviors
- Be able to identify and critique important elements that affect the success of a Health Communication research and projects
