thea@jhsph.edu Thea is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in the field of marketing communications. Having run a successful graphic design business for 13 years, Thea relies on her strong systems management skills to keep the multiple facets of the Office of Communications running smoothly. Prior to coming to the Bloomberg School, she served as director of communications for the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering. Thea has a BFA in visual communication from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and also attended the Rochester Institute of Technology as an undergraduate photography major. For several years, she taught a course in business practices at MICA and currently designs books for National Geographic and others on a freelance basis.
bsimpson@jhsph.edu With more than 20 years of writing and editing experience, Brian oversees the writers in the Communications Office. Brian is also editor of Johns Hopkins Public Health, the award-winning magazine that chronicles public health issues and the School’s research. Prior to joining Hopkins, Brian worked as a newspaper reporter in Florida, an editor and writer in Texas, a technical writer in Moldova and a freelance writer in Baltimore. Brian earned a BA in English and a bachelor of journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and an MA in writing from the Johns Hopkins University.
tmparson@jhsph.edu Tim oversees public affairs for the Bloomberg School and serves as one of two media contacts for the School. He is also the editor of the online Public Health News Center. Tim joined the School in 2001 after working for several years as public affairs coordinator for the University of Maryland Hospital for Children. For nearly 10 years, Tim worked as a news producer and assignment editor for WMAR-TV in Baltimore. Tim earned a BA in communications from Fordham University.
nwoodwri@jhsph.edu A former television news reporter, Natalie works closely with the media to promote the Bloomberg School and increase public awareness of its research and faculty. Natalie joined the School in 2008 after working for several years as a public relations representative for Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore. Before that she worked as a general assignment reporter for the ABC affiliate in Salisbury, Md. Natalie has a bachelor of arts in communication from Michigan State University.
jfrank@jhsph.edu A writer and editor, Jackie writes stories for the School's magazine and its website, and edits and proofreads publications produced by the Office of Communications and Public Affairs. Previously, she spent 16 years as a reporter at the Baltimore Sun, covering a number of beats, including education, courts and mental health, and working as a general assignment writer. She has a BA in English from Mount Holyoke College.
cgrillo@jhsph.edu As writer and editor in the Office of Communications, Christine writes stories for Johns Hopkins Public Health and for the School’s website, and she edits publications produced by the Office. Before coming to the School, she spent five years teaching creative writing and English composition at universities in Baltimore and New York; for the ten years prior to that she wrote and edited content for print publications and multimedia firms in New York. She has a BA in English from Columbia College, Columbia University, and she has an MA in Creative Writing from The Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminars.
rollinge@jhsph.edu Robert has produced a wide range of projects including books, exhibits, magazines, annual reports, viewbooks, websites and one escutcheon for Michael Bloomberg. Previously, he worked over 10 years at a design firm specializing in corporate and institutional identity. Additionally, he has arranged art events and assisted in programming a film festival. He has a BS in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park, and an MA in publications design from the University of Baltimore.
kcrispin@jhsph.edu Konrad applies his knowledge and experience to the Office’s many challenges in visual communication and print production. Before joining the Bloomberg School, Konrad provided creative solutions for T. Rowe Price and GKV Advertising Inc. Konrad graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a BA in visual communication. He is also a member of the America Institute of Graphic Arts.
dcroft@jhsph.edu David is the creative force behind the School's websites and interactive media. With 13+ years of experience in design, branding and marketing, David has a very good sense of the most appropriate and successful messages to convey to audiences. His approach to communication follows simple Bauhaus fundamentals - form follows function. He graduated from Drexel University with a BS is Graphic Design and has previous experience with a wide range of clients from Acura, Snyder's of Hanover, Aramark, and CoverGirl to Kellogg's, Martin Marietta, Pizza Hut, Black & Decker and Beazer Homes.
cfschroe@jhsph.edu Chris has almost 10 years of Web design and production experience. He specializes in HTML and graphic production, but also has experience in PHP/MySQL development and design. Chris earned a BS in corporate communications from the University of Baltimore.
miksmith@jhsph.edu A self-taught web developer, Mike began working with HTML over 12 years ago with clients in the small business sector. After acquiring an AAS in Graphic Design/Web Development, he worked at Jhpiego, a division of Johns Hopkins University, doing general website maintenance, updates and rewriting the code to be standards compliant and more efficient. In July of 2008 he joined the team at JHSPH. Specializing in HTML and CSS, Mike produces design templates for the School's website. Past experiences include working with ASP/VBScript, Perl and building sites from the ground up, including overall design. Future plans include a return to school to pursue a bachelor's degree.
