The Johns Hopkins Sustainability Initiative The Johns Hopkins Sustainability Initiative (JHSI) was launched in the summer of 2006 as a natural outgrowth of several successful greening programs on campus. The JHSI was formed to - Develop and facilitate projects that reduce the negative environmental impacts of the University;
- Integrate the skills, experience, and creativity of our students and faculty into each project; and
- Promote sustainability through education and outreach activities, collaboration between school divisions, and involvement in the larger Baltimore community.
CLF has been an active participant in various JHSI environmental sustainability committees. CLF has supported graduate research on sustainability issues, and catalyzed the university-wide greenhouse gas emissions inventory. CLF also provides technical assistance to JHSI and hosts sustainability events on campus, including presentations from leading environmentalists, film series, and nation-wide climate action teach-ins.
Environmental Stewardship Committee CLF was a leader in the formation of the Environmental Stewardship Committee (ESC) in 2001. Currently, two CLF staff members sit on the committee, one of whom chairs the Energy Conservation Subcommittee. CLF provides the ESC with technical assistance and guidance on best practices. CLF was integral in implementing JHSPH's new single stream recycling program. (2009 Green Living Guide) |
