The CIR has conducted clinical trials or field studies using the following vaccines against ETEC:
- Transcutaneous LT
- Live, oral attenuated ETEC expressing CFAs
- Recombinant B subunit of cholera toxin, which is similar to LT, combined with five strains of formalin-killed ETEC whole cells expressing CFAs
- Live attenuated Vibrio cholerae vectoring CFA/I
- Orally delivered bovine milk immunoglobulin specific for CFA/I and the minor CFA/I fimbrial adhesion, CfaE
- Orally delivered bovine milk immunoglobulin specific for CS17 fimbriae and CS17 minor fimbrial adhesion CsbD
The CIR has conducted clinical trials using the following vaccine candidates against Shigella: - S. flexneri, 2a LPS proteosome vaccine
- S. flexneri 2a Invaplex 50 vaccine
- WRSd1 live attenuated S. dysenteriae type I vaccine
- S. sonnei inactivated whole cell vaccine
