Step 1: Contact Ana Weil to learn about projects in Cameroon.
Step 2: Send a letter of proposal and a CV to Jeremy Alberga. Your proposal may be
- to work in one of our established projects as a research assistant
- to conduct independent research that addresses WRJHCP aims
Step 3: Gain approval from the WRJHCP coordinators.
Step 4: Establish the period of research, funding, and expected outcomes from your visit.
Step 5: Request a letter of invitation. Email Jeremy Alberga with the following information:
- name and title (e.g., Epidemiology student, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health)
- title of your research project (e.g., Mammal Sampling)
- dates of arrival and departure
- fax number where letter can be sent
Step 6: Prepare for departure by
- getting appropriate immunizations for your project
- getting proper documentation—a visa will be necessary (go to the The Embassy of the Republic of Cameroon Web site for more information)
- arranging travel—plan to arrive and depart from Yaounde, not Douala
- arranging health insurance for your stay
Step 7: Keep in touch with the in-country supervisor assigned to you. Preparation for research and the realities of the field often necessitate changes, so you should keep informed of any developments. If at any time you have questions, or have trouble reaching your supervisor, you should contact Ana Weil in Baltimore (410-502-0414) or Jeremy Alberga (011-237-221-3382).
Step 8: Request pick-up at the airport.
Step 9: Begin your research in Cameroon!
