Dear Friend:American Indian health problems are sentinel for all Americans. Native children have: - a 27% chance of living in poverty,
- three times the chance of dying in youth,
- lower access to health care, and
- less educational opportunity and higher lifetime unemployment than other US children.
They also come from a heritage that protects the environment, views children as sacred, and holds values that are essential to the survival of the planet. Change is urgent for today’s Native peoples to protect their place in the world. Our Center for American Indian Health is dedicated to providing national leadership to help tribes overcome health disparities and renew autonomy over their communities’ health management. We also believe with renewed health and leadership, they will provide worldwide leadership in promoting wellness for all peoples and nature. The Center’s success is only possible with support of people and organizations who share our compassion and understanding of the importance of Native peoples’ well-being. Please join us today. “It is our desire that we and you should be of one heart, one mind, and one body, thus becoming one people, entertaining a mutual love and regard or each other, to be preserved firm and entire, not only between you and us, but between your children and our children and all succeeding generations.” -Kanickhungo, Tribe Unknown 1730.
