American Indian Scholars Program

Award Description

The scholars program provides funding and mentor support for American Indian masters' and doctoral public health students who aspire to serve the health needs of American Indian tribes.  Scholarship awards vary from full to partial tuition and include a small living stipend.

Priority for the scholarship award is given to students who are enrolled in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  Based on the availability of funds, partial support may also be provided for American Indian students in programs at the Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Nursing.

Required Qualifications

Scholarship applicants who meet the eligibility criteria outlined below are invited to complete an application form.

Eligibility criteria:

-Must be admitted to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, School of Medicine, or School of Nursing.*

-Must be an enrolled member or descendent of a federally recognized tribe.

-Must be dedicated and committed to work with American Indian tribes, particularly in the field of public health and health care.

*Students in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and School of Nursing must demonstrate that they have applied for other sources of funding (i.e., Indian Health Service, American Indian Graduate Center, etc.).
