Mental Health - Current ProjectsEMPOWERING OUR SPIRITS APACHE SUICIDE PREVENTION INITIATIVE The mission of the Empowering Our Spirits Program is to implement a comprehensive, integrated, three-tiered prevention approach to decrease Apache youth suicidal behavior (death, attempts, ideation) by promoting protective factors and reducing risk factors on a community, family and individual level. This project is funded by two cycles of Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention funding plus an enhanced evaluation award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). NARCH V/VI INTENTIONAL SELF INJURY BINGE DRINKING The mission of the NARCH V/VI project is to expand the comprehensive Apache-Hopkins suicide prevention research program to understand risk factors, contextual features and behavioral functions of binge alcohol and drug use among Apache youth, as a self-injurious behavior and in relationship to suicide and other non-suicidal self-injury in this population. The findings from this study will be applied through a community-based participatory process to the design of additional evidence-based prevention interventions. PAST PROJECTS |
