Needed: 30 Children with autism, each with a typically developing sibling (both ages 2-12 years), and their mothers and fathers, This study requires one blood sample (15 cc or 3 teaspoons) from each mother, father, child with autism and sibling. We will determine the effects of the parents’ antibodies on white blood cells (lymphocytes) of the children. The risk is limited to drawing blood and disclosure of medical information. Participants in this study will not benefit directly, but we may learn more about how these antibodies affect function of the lymphocytes in autism, which may reflect cells in the brain. Each child who participates in the study will receive a $25 gift certificate. Time commitment: about 1 hour.
