The Honors & Awards Committee of the Student Assembly works to promote excellence on campus by coordinating the annual faculty, staff, and student awards, the Auction and the Student Conference Fund. Through the giving of awards, the committee seeks to provide a forum for students to express appreciation to those who have gone above and beyond in their duties, and to publicly recognize all those on campus who make daily life more enjoyable at JHSPH. | Each spring, we require several student volunteers to help read and score nominations, select award winners, and create & distribute certificates of recognition for all those nominated. E-mail saawards@jhsph.edu to find out how to be a part of the most uplifting experience all year! | Chair: VP for Honors & Awards (saawards@jhsph.edu) Members | E-mail us to find out when we meet. |

For excellence in teaching. These are the highest honors students can give faculty, and the winners are recognized on stage at both the awards ceremony and at convocation. These award winners are also listed as the 'Excellence in Teaching' recipients that the Alumni Association recognizes from all 8 Hopkins divisions each year. There are 4 awards each year, for Large, Medium, Small, and Internet classes. Instructors who are nominated are then placed on a ballot and the winners are those who receive the majority vote of all JHSPH students. For any instructor, advisor, mentor, or other faculty member who is truly exceptional. 10 awards are given out each year (usually one per department, unless the students from one department do not submit any qualifying nominations). Recipients are chosen based on student nomination statements alone - meaning what you write will decide who wins these awards!
For anyone on the School's staff - both department affiliated and extra-departmental (audio-visual, student affairs, housekeeping, maintenance, etc) - who has gone above and beyond to make life better for students. We give out 5 awards per year, 2 for department-affiliated staff, 2 for extra-departmental staff, and 1 that can go either way. Recipients are chosen based on student nomination statements alone - meaning what you write will decide who wins these awards!
For teaching assistants who have shown true dedication and were really outstanding. Teaching assistants from the 4th term classes of the previous year are also eligible. We give out 2 awards - based on student nomination statements only.
For a fellow student who has been involved in a lot at the School and has really worked to improve life for students. Up to 3 awards are given out. Two are voted on by all students at the School, and a third may be selected from student nomiation statements if an outstanding candidate exists and did not win the vote.
