Mission Statement The Incentive Mentoring Program (IMP) uses a "family-style" mentoring approach to foster the transformation of high school students, who are not meeting minimum academic requirements and facing significant psychosocial challenges, into self-motivated, resourceful, and socially aware leaders committed to a higher purpose of their own. Who we are IMP is a community of students and volunteers working together towards mutual growth. At IMP's Johns Hopkins-East Baltimore Site students from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School are selected during their freshman year based on poor academic performance and the existence of psychosocial challenges. IMP matches high school students with hundreds of Johns Hopkins University undergraduate and graduate volunteers, as well as dedicated individuals from the Baltimore community, who come together to provide stability for IMP students. However, IMP creates a family of support for everyone, not just the students. We never give up on anyone in the IMP Family, whether it is a student or a volunteer. How to volunteer If you are interested in volunteering with IMP, please contact us directly through our online form. Here are some ways to help: Join an "IMP Family" of Mentors Each student is matched with a family of up to 10 volunteers who are able to meet his/her comprehensive needs. The "family-style" mentoring structure affords volunteers complete flexibility while assuring continuity for the students. Join an IMP Committee Volunteers can also choose to contribute to both IMP and the community through working with dedicated teams of volunteers to develop comprehensive programs such as Academic Affairs, Community Service, Enrichment and Teambuilding, SAT Prep, College Prep, Life Skills, and Summer Programs and innovative projects in Technology, Development, Historian, and Recruitment.
