  Marsha Lopez is the Chief of the Epidemiology Research Branch in the Division of Epidemiology, Services, and Prevention Research at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health.  After receiving her BA in Psychology from Georgetown University, Dr. Lopez was an Intramural Research Training Associate (IRTA) Fellow at NIDA in the Preclinical Behavioral Pharmacology Laboratory. She attended the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Mental Hygiene, where she received her MHS with a concentration in Public Mental Health, and then PhD with a focus on drug and alcohol dependence epidemiology. Her predoctoral training was funded by an Individual National Research Service Award (NRSA) from NIDA (F31). Dr. Lopez subsequently was faculty at the Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR) at the University of Maryland and then led a team at Walter Reed Army Medical Center conducting medical surveillance on the United States Military population.  She joined NIDA in 2006 and prior to becoming Branch Chief her program areas varied from large national epidemiological studies and secondary data analysis, to comorbidity of drug and other psychiatric disorders, to diagnostic measurement and assessment, and of course research training.
