  PhD ’97

  Paul Rathouz was recently selected as the the new chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin.

• Bradley Jones
  MHS ’96

  Bradley E. Jones, age 40 of Duluth, died February 17, 2010. Mr. Jones was born in Bristol, TN and was senior vice president and division president for Health Management Associates of Naples, FL. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelors degree in public administration. He also played football and was a member of the German Club while at Virginia Tech. He is survived by his wife of 15 years Deborah Jones, daughter Anna Katherine Jones and son Burke Hamilton Jones all of Duluth, mother Bonnie Jones of Lebanon, VA, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and two godchildren.

  Joan Griffin was recognized by the University of Minnesota School of Public Health as a Community Partner Star as part of the 2009 Community Partner Awards on September 17, 2009.

• Ranit Mishori
  MHS ’99, MD

  Ranit Mishori, assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, has received the 2009 "Emerging Leader Award" from the Family Medicine Education Consortium (FEMC) and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) at their annual Northeast Region conference.

  The award, presented in October, is part of the FEMC’s Emerging Leaders Initiative, a program aimed at identifying those with the potential to be future leaders in family medicine, academic and community service efforts.

  Dr. Mishori is director of the Family Medicine Clerkship program at the GUSOM. In addition to her service to patients and students, Mishori is contributing health editor at Parade Magazine and a regular contributor to the Washington Post health section.

  Farley Cleghorn spent a 10-year stint at the University of Maryland Medical Center/Institute of Human Virology in Baltimore before moving in 2004 to the Futures Group in Washington, D.C., where he is now Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer.

  Amanda J. Liddle, currently an assistant professor of nursing at Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) at the annual meeting of the Academy, November 5-7, 2009, in Atlanta.

  Marguerite J. Ro is the deputy director for Policy and Programs at the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum in San Francisco.

• Stephen Nurse-Findlay
  MPH ’99

  Stephen Nurse-Findlay was appointed programme officer for governance with the Global Alliance for Vaccinations and Immunizations (GAVI Alliance) in Geneva, Switzerland.

  He works closely with the GAVI Governance Team to ensure the proper functioning of the GAVI Board of Directors and the Executive and Policy committees, and manages the organization's relationships with the developing countries with which it collaborates, as well as GAVI's partner community agencies.

• Ravi Rao
  PhD ’97, MD

  Ravi Rao lives in Los Angeles and is a consultant and trainer in emotional intelligence for executives in the entertainment, financial services, public sector and health care industries. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Los Angeles.

• Alka Dev
  MHS ’98

  For the past 10 years, Dev has worked with U.S. NGOs in health system capacity building and outreach to marginalized and vulnerable populations. She has focused on provider training to improve knowledge and quality of care, health policy analysis and enforcement, and health status improvement of children with special needs, ethnically marginalized communities, and those at risk for TB and HIV infection.

  Since 2003, Dev has been leading the implementation of TB control projects in Kosovo, Romania and Mexico, focused on capacity building of the TB program and inclusion of minority areas. In Romania, she also participated in the development of the country proposal to the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria. Her most recent work in Mexico was to develop a community TB care strategy for rural and ethnic minority communities, which is currently being piloted.

  Dev is currently providing technical assistance on TB operations research in Romania, community TB care in Mexico, and Global Fund proposal development in Vietnam.

  She also works with New York-based arts organizations that present issues of marginalization, social justice and human rights through the visual and performing arts.

• Jennifer Wagman

  Jennifer Wagman is a doctoral student at the Bloomberg School in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health. Previously, she worked for the School's Rakai Health Sciences Program, 6 years in Uganda and 3 in Baltimore.

• Uwe Goehlert
  MPH ’91, MD,CM, MBA

  Dr. Goehlert is Board Certified in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Quality Assurance and Utilization Review, and Managed Care Medicine, and is eligible in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He has been practicing medicine for more than 20 years and holds active state medical licenses in Vermont, Florida and Maryland.

  He has extensive clinical and administrative experience in ambulatory, emergency and urgent care medicine for all age groups. He has particular medico-legal and bio-ethical interest and expertise in standard of care issues and utilization management. International healthcare network development, medical tourism, process improvement and implementation are some of his global interests. He has also been involved in managing and educating all level of providers, in the emergency healthcare system.

  Melissa Perry was promoted to Associate Professor of Occupational Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.

• Nicole Cheetham
  MHS ’97

  Nicole Cheetham is the director of the International Division of Advocates for Youth, a non profit organization that implements and promotes programs and policies to help young people around the world make responsible decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.

  She oversees programs in sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean that focus on youth-led advocacy, life skills education, community mobilization and parent-child communicaiton, as wel as a U.S.-based youth council that advocates for science-based U.S. and international HIV and family planning policies aimed at youth.

• Zahidul Huque

  Zahidul Huque is currently the Country Representative for the United Nations Population Fund in Indonesia (Jakarta) after having worked in both Indonesia and Sudan.

• Louis Francescutti
  MPH ’94

  Louis Hugo Francescutti is a Professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. Recently he founded the Coalition for Cellphone Free Driving and Injury Alberta. In 2005, he was selected as one of the hundred most influential physicians in Alberta in the past one hundred years. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Preventive Medicine. He looks forward to reconnecting with other Hopkins Preventive Medicine Residents from 1993-1995.

  Mark Danese recentky celebrated his fifth anniversary as president of his own epidemiology and health economics consulting company, Outcomes Insights, Inc. Currently, the company has 5 full-time and 3 part-time employees, and is based in Southern California.

  Ingrid Kohlstadt published 'Food and Nutrients in Disease Management' (CRC Press, Boca Raton) in January, 2009. The text brings together 65 experts, including seven from Johns Hopkins.

• Fadia Shaya
  PhD ’94

  Dr, Shaya is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. She has launched a new public-private partnership program in Baltimore, the MVP program (Maryland Men's CardioVascular Promotion Program). Funded by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, MVP is based on the propagation of cardiovascular medication and health information through social networks.

• Mark Krushat

  Mark Krushat retired from the U.S. Public Health Service in 2005. He now is a consultant to several organizations and teaches statistics as an adjunct associate professor at the U.S. Naval Academy.

• Andrea Kalfoglou
  PhD ’99

  Andrea Kalfoglou contributed a chapter to a new book entitled 'Motherhood: the Elephant in the Laboratory'. She is now a tenure-track assistant professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

• Chaloupka James
  MHS ’97, PhD

  Chaloupka James graduated with a PhD from the Pharmacology program at Cornell Weill Medical College in June 2006, and is currently employed as an Associate Medical Director at BGB New York, a pharmaceutical marketing and medical communications agency located in lower Manhattan.

• Mindy Wyttenbach-Lindsey, Ph.D.
  MHS ’99

  Mindy Wyttenbach-Lindsey took on a new position as Executive Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia in March 2007.
