The Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health
Director

The Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health (COAH), a collaborative Center that includes representative faculty from the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, seeks a new Director.  This multidisciplinary Center of Excellence was founded in 1998 by Linda Fried, MD, MPH to facilitate clinical and population based research across these schools. COAH is the home for multiple aging-related research and training programs across these Johns Hopkins medical institutions.

Research within the center spans the full spectrum of aging research, from the biology of aging to health policy, with a focus on facilitating the translation of research discoveries into applications that will directly improve the health of older adults.  COAH faculty members lead many of these clinical trials, epidemiological studies, center grants, and community-based participatory research in order to determine aging-related etiologies of late-life decline, develop appropriately targeted interventions, and promote health in older adults.  The rich research and training milieu greatly facilitates the intellectual interactions that are essential in the development of creative approaches to solve the important health problems for an aging population.

The next director of this center will be responsible for setting a vision for the development and next generation of important aging population studies within the Center and play an important leadership role in the Center’s educational programs.  There is an expectation that the COAH leader would bring and further develop their own externally funded research program. In addition, this leader will play a major role in the mentorship of post-doctoral and student trainees and junior faculty within the center, clinical research and administrative staff oversight, facilitating multidisciplinary aging research across university, developing clinical and translational research programs focused on older adults, promoting visibility for scholarship on aging within and outside the institution, and interacting with leadership in the multiple Johns Hopkins Schools toward these ends.   Candidates interested in this position should be at the Associate Professor/Professor level, have a record of leadership in multidisciplinary research in aging and health with experience in such areas as chronic diseases, frailty and disability in older adults, conducting population-based research, and developing novel methods for screening, prevention and clinical translation.  Specialty expertise in epidemiology is ideal.  Faculty appointment (s) will be made according to appropriate expertise in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, Department of Medicine, the Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, or in the School of Nursing depending on qualifications and expertise.

The Johns Hopkins University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to recruiting, supporting, and fostering a diverse community of outstanding faculty, staff, and students.  All applicants who share this goal are encouraged to apply.
