Our program prepares epidemiologists and biostatisticians to conduct the multidisciplinary research needed to define models of healthy, productive aging and the prevention and interventions to accomplish this goal. With many investigators already involved in doing research, we can provide the experience and mentoring needed.
Our educational goal has three complementary parts: - Preparing epidemiologists and biostatisticians to design and analyze studies that delineate risk factors when there are both multifactorial risk factors and multidimensional outcomes, and determining when interventions in such a setting are effective.
- Training in the epidemiology of aging and gerontologic issues, so that this knowledge can be applied to development of the next generation of hypotheses and statistical methods in aging research.
- Preparing trainees to use such methods and results to their fullest potential through understanding content, issues, and methods specific to aging and health, and through experience in interdisciplinary collaboration on these issues.
