Dr. Simpson is a fellow in epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Center on Aging and Health and a fellow in geriatric medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her core interests are in asthma in the elderly, the validity of self-report in older disabled adults, and health disparities in older adults. Current Projects include 1) a John A. Hartford/American Federation of Aging Research Academic Fellowship Program in Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Psychiatry grant to study asthma in older African American females, 2) Functional Literacy in Older Women, 3) The Validity of Self- Report of Medical Conditions in the Women’s Health and Aging Study.
Dr. Simpson is the director of the Johns Hopkins Geriatric Summer Scholar Program based at the Center on Aging and Health and the Division of Geriatric Medicine. The program is designed to give an opportunity for minority students to be exposed to gerontological research and geriatric medicine.
Dr. Simpson studied Psychobiology as an undergraduate at Swarthmore College. She received her MD from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Virtua- Memorial Hospital of Burlington County Family Medicine Residency Program in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. She is currently completing two postdoctoral fellowships in Geriatric Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a fellowship in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics of Aging at the Center on Aging and Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
