The Mayor’s Office of Employment Development Baltimore City Career Academy is sponsored by the Mayor and City Council & the Baltimore Workforce Investment Board – Youth Council. The initiative provides learning options for Baltimore City youth to learn, earn and work towards the attainment of a high school diploma, GED preparation and college admissions, or enter the workforce. The possibilities are unlimited. The Career Academy offers out-of-school youth a career-based pathway to success.

The Office of Community Health serves as an official interface between the community and the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions to reduce health disparities in East Baltimore. The Center for Injury Research and Policy is one of 12 injury centers funded, in large part, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center on Injury Prevention and Control. Working together, researchers and practitioners from many disciplines study the complex problems of injuries in an attempt to find answers that will reduce injuries and save lives.

Urban Health Institute, Johns Hopkins University

The Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute (UHI) was established in July 2000. It receives core funding and support from virtually all the schools that constitute The Johns Hopkins University. UHI was a principal recommendation of the Urban Health Council, a group of community residents, clergy, local leaders, business representatives, city officials, and faculty, staff and students from the Johns Hopkins Institutions. Dr. William Brody, president of Johns Hopkins University, had charged the group with exploring ways that the research, teaching and clinical expertise of the University could be better harnessed for the benefit of the residents of East Baltimore.
