In addition to receiving a world-class education, Sommer Scholars participate in a leadership enrichment program.
This series of co-curricular activities develops the scholars' personal skills, fosters collaboration, and builds a network of contacts they can draw upon throughout their careers.
The enrichment program focuses on skill-building, understanding leadership, teamwork, and networking, through interdisciplinary, interactive, and innovative approaches. Activities include an orientation retreat, a field trip to Washington, DC, media training, and sessions with public health leaders.
"The enrichment program provided opportunities to interact with leaders who are practicing public health using diverse approaches like political action, media, advocacy, and policymaking. I also learned how these approaches interface to create a cohesive strategy for change. Seeing professional leaders in action was an inspirational sight"
